We have established the new Global Foundation for Community Safety Volunteering because policing is too important to be left to the police alone. Volunteering in policing and across public safety is too important to remain as an often neglected, peripheral issue that receives little attention.

Dr Iain Britton CF

Co-Founder of the Global Foundation, Iain brings many years of experience as a leading academic and researcher internationally in the field of volunteer policing. Iain has visited and worked with well over a hundred different police volunteer programmes in more than a dozen countries. He has written and presented widely on the topic of volunteers in policing and is passionate about the potential for innovation and growth in the future. Iain was a 2023 Churchill Fellow, studying volunteer policing in the USA, Canada, and the Netherlands.

David Pedrick-Friend

Co-Founder of the Global Foundation, David brings many years of strategic leadership in volunteer policing. As Chief Officer of Gloucestershire Special Constabulary and in a national leadership role in the UK for six years as Chair of the Association of Special Constabulary Officers (ASCO). David brings not only considerable experience of leading volunteering in policing at a senior, strategic level, but also a strong interest in innovation and learning internationally between different countries.
